It was I Lord
(Good Friday Procession Hymn)

1.     O my Jesus, who handed over,

your life for silver, for petty greed?

It was I Lord, I crucified you,

O Lord have mercy and pardon me!

It was my sins Lord, that crucified you,

O Lord have mercy and pardon me!

2.     O my Jesus, who was it ran from you,

who abandoned you in your need?

               It was I Lord…

3.     O my Jesus, who was it bound you,

who took you captive, tied like a slave?

               It was I Lord…

4.     O my Jesus, who has denied you,

who proved false when called to speak?

                It was I Lord…

5.     O my Jesus, who was it scourged you?

Who cruelly flayed your most precious flesh?

               It was I Lord…

6.     O my Jesus, who was it beat you?

Who struck and taunted, your Holy Face?

               It was I Lord…

7.     O my Jesus, who was it crowned you,

who plunged the thorns deep within your brow?

               It was I Lord…

8.     O my Jesus, who placed the burden,

of that heavy and awful Cross?

               It was I Lord…

9.     O my Jesus, who was it wounded,

Your hands and feet with cruel iron nails?

               It was I Lord…

10.   O my Jesus, who was the scorner,

who mocked your suff’ring, upon the Cross?

               It was I Lord…

11.  O my Jesus, who was it piercèd,

your Sacred Heart with a vicious spear?

               It was I Lord…

12.  O Maria, who was it robbed you,

of your fair Son on Calvary?

              O Maria, O sweet Maria,

I stole your Son through, my wickedness,

O pray Maria, please pray for my soul,

Maria hear me, I beg of you!
